Motor Vehicle Liability / Premises Liability / Property Damage

Our firm has litigated thousands of automobile liability, uninsured/underinsured motorist, premises liability and large loss fire and water property damage cases since its inception in 1949.  We have defended business owners and homeowners in state and federal court in traditional ice/snow fall down claims to premises defect and engineering/code compliance cases. We frequently are retained to defend cases of catastrophic injuries and have been retained by insurers prior to litigation to assist in the investigation of losses, evaluation of claims, and preservation of evidence.

Workers Compensation

We provide full-service representation in the defense of Workers' Compensation claims for insurance companies and employers. Our attorneys represent employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators starting from a claim’s initiation, at hearings, during negotiation and before the Connecticut Workers Compensation Review Board, until the matter is concluded. We have significant knowledge of state workers’ compensation law and the Connecticut Workers Compensation Commission.  We aim to provide the highest quality legal representation in workers' compensation matters and to vigorously defend our clients in accordance with client interests and goals.

Construction Liability Defense

Our firm has extensive experience defending claims against property owners, general contractors, architects, and subcontractors in a wide range of construction defect claims and accidents. These include claims arising out of work place injuries, wrongful death, property damage, OSHA compliance, roofing systems, drainage, lead paint and indemnity and insurance issues.

Product Liability and Warranty

As part of our product liability practice, we have represented manufactures, distributors and retailers in wide ranging product liability claims of design defect, manufacturing defect, breach of warranty, and failure to warn. These cases involved cranes, aircraft, automobiles, boilers, faucets, refrigerators, hot water heaters and other equipment.

Insurance Coverage / Subrogation

Mulvey Oliver Gould & Crotta represents insurers in all phases of insurance coverage practice, including providing coverage opinions, litigating insurance coverage questions through declaratory judgment lawsuits, and prosecuting appeals of insurance coverage issues in the context of commercial, automobile, property and casualty and other insurance policies.  We also frequently represent insurance companies in their subrogation claims in the courts and at intercompany arbitration proceedings involving a variety of losses including, motor vehicle losses, property damage, product liability, appliance malfunctions, water loss, and workers compensation. We handle these claims on a contingency basis.

Estate Planning and Administration

Mulvey Oliver Gould & Crotta provides estate planning services to individuals and families to achieve their desired disposition of assets upon death.  Our estate planning services include the preparation of wills, trusts, powers of attorney, designations of conservator and healthcare instructions (living wills).  In addition, our attorneys have represented a wide array of clients in various Probate Court proceedings and appeals to the Connecticut Superior Court, including decedent’s estates, guardianships and conservatorships.

Appellate Practice

Mulvey Oliver Gould & Crotta attorneys have briefed and argued numerous appeals before the Connecticut Supreme Court, the Connecticut Appellate Court and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals involving many issues, including parental immunity, insurance coverage, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, municipal liability pursuant to highway defect statute, apportionment of liability for negligence and the necessity of particular jury instructions.
